Having a great team is something many organizations long for. We get to see great examples of exceptional teams like the Navy Seals, Disney, Pixar, and Google, but what is it that these teams have that yours doesn't? While there are a lot of things that go into making these teams successful, there are two characteristics that set them apart. Trust and Vulnerability.
Normally, we think about trust and vulnerability the way we think about standing on solid ground and leaping into the unknown: First we build trust, then we leap. Science, however, is showing us that we have this backwards. Vulnerability does not come after trust, it precedes it. Leaping into the unknown, when done alogside others, causes the solid ground of trust to materialize beneath our feet.
Have you ever lost trust in a leader due to a lack of vulnerability or openness?
Yes
No
